The Artful Oven was born from a passion for cake and a love of art.

Grace Townley-Lott is an artist in Brooklyn, who until recently was creating art solely on a painted canvas. She uses a palette knife to apply buttercream like paint, creating modernist cakes with the depth of an oil painting.

The Artful Oven cakes often incorporate various textures and shades (often acheived with buttercream frosting, although fondant is also an option if preferred), surprising pops of color, chocolate drips, dramatic sculpture, sugar work, hints of gold leaf, and even elegant sugar crystal geodes!
